The Camden Art Prize is organised each year, beginning the first weekend of May and has been held for over 40 years.
Experienced judges examine each painting, award section winners, and give commendation awards. They also decide the winner of the Camden Art Prize. The winning artwork is purchased by the committee to form part of the Camden Council Acquisition Collection for public display. Works must be the original works of the entrant, have been completed in the last 12 months and have not been exhibited in any previous exhibition in the Camden, Campbelltown or Wollondilly Local Government Areas.
The Art Prize is renowned as a high-calibre art exhibition and competition, with entries coming from both local and surrounding areas as well as interstate.
The Committee began with a vision to allow an avenue for artists to sell their works for the enjoyment and appreciation of art in the local and wider community and the opportunity to acquire artworks for the Camden Council Collection.
The Art Prize encourages and enthuses school children to appreciate the art in the exhibition. School excursions and drawing classes are held throughout the exhibition by talented artists explaining different methods, mediums and results.
The exhibition is ever evolving with “Art After Dark”, where an accomplished artist guides you through the exhibition and shares with you their love and passion for art.
